Smart Towns: The art of the possible

Smart Towns:
The art of the possible

Carmarthenshire County Council are making funding available for up to
45 businesses to become early adopters of new technologies. They are keen to enable businesses to obtain small, electronic devices to use the Internet of Things (IoT) network they have installed and can help tell you what’s going on in your business, in real-time.

These clever, unobtrusive devices and sensors report to you via a dashboard so that you can make informed decisions to save waste and improve efficiency and profitability. They are part of a wider system of connectivity known as Smart Towns.

Funding is available to advise you on appropriate solutions for your business and then purchase and install the sensors that can for example sense temperature, motion, light, air quality, customer satisfaction and so on.

Sensors like this could report refrigerator temperatures in a commercial kitchen or even moisture levels in a storage location where stock requires a certain humidity range

A pilot project to help a small number of businesses in Llanelli, Carmarthen, Ammanford and Burry Port has begun.

The aim is to help businesses gather useful data and be better informed when making future plans to increase their revenue. Utilising IoT devices provides intelligence and data for maintaining successful businesses which is key in helping town centres thrive and develop.

Devices can alert to simple things such as fridge or oven doors being left open, or monitor temperature and lighting conditions, preventing waste.

A Simple, 3-Step Process
